Jingling Geordie

By Ruth Henderson

The one-act play entitled "Jingling Geordie", was about the famous and infamous local smuggling legend.

Our story was set in the late 18th century when hard times were caused by taxation, several years of bad weather, and the Napoleonic wars.  The 'helpful' Dutch smugglers go some way to easing the life of the locals.  Contraband, at a price, is to be found everywhere, and local dignitary Thomas Armstrong has the biggest stash in the deep cellars of Cliff House!  But some evil person has devised an ingenious way to cause ships to wreck on the jagged rocks below the Priory, so they can be plundered.
