BEDE'S BOOKS: HEAVEN AND HELL IN 15 MINUTES

This short play was written at the request of Bede's World, the Anglo Saxon museum at Jarrow on the south bank of the river Tyne opposite Tynemouth. It was our first venture outside our tri-ennial open air pageants in the grounds of Tynemouth Castle and Priory.
The play was performed at the museum's annual Medieval Fair Day. It was based on one of Bede's stories about a rich man's vision in which he discovers that his 'book of bad deeds' is larger than his 'book of good deeds. He decides to abandon his riotous living and become a monk.
